Victor EzejaFormer presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has said the coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), will ensure that Nigerians get competent and compassionate leaders in 2027 who will prioritise their welfare.
Obi stated this while reiterating his support for the ADC being chosen as the coalition platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelIn a statement via his X handle, Obi emphasised that the action stemmed from a dedication to offering Nigeria capable and sympathetic leadership.
“Our commitment is to sacrifice and work together towards the 2027 General Elections, ensuring that Nigeria gets a competent, capable, and compassionate leadership that will prioritise the nation’s future by putting the welfare of Nigerians first,” Obi stated.
According to him, the coalition’s decision to come together under the ADC was made after a “deep reflection” on Nigeria’s current situation and the pressing need for a progressive move.

The former two-term governor of Anambra State pointed out that no single person or group can transform Nigeria, hence the coalition must unite and accept ADC.
“No one group can change Nigeria alone. To dismantle the structures that keep our people in poverty and insecurity, we must build bridges, not walls, even when those bridges are uneasy,” ADC stated.
Prime Business Africa reports that ADC was on Wednesday formally adopted as the coalition platform for the 2027 Nigerian General Elections. Former Senate President, David Mark, was appointed as the interim National Chairman. While the Former Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, was appointed as the National Secretary.
Other notable members of the coalition include former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, ex-governor of Sokoto, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, and former APC national chairman, Chief John Odigie Oyegun, among others.
Labour Party Gives Obi 48 Hours To Quit
Meanwhile, a Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party has issued Obi a 48-hour ultimatum to formally resign his membership of the party. This came after he declared that he has joined the ADC coalition.
The ultimatum was contained in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Obiora Ifoh, on Thursday, 3 July.
Ifoh said the party has consistently declared that it is not interested in the coalition.
He claimed that the personalities that came together to form the coalition under ADC will not realise the “new is Possible” mantra that Obi has often proclaimed.
“Labour Party has consistently said it is not part of the coalition and therefore, any of our members who are part of the coalition are given within 48 hours to formally resign their membership of the party,” the party of the statement read.
