Authorities also disclosed that parallel steps are being taken to secure the necessary regulatory approvals from key federal institutions, including the Nigerian Ports Authority and the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, as well as the Presidency.

As part of preliminary assessments, the project team has been urged to conduct an on-site evaluation of the proposed location in Azumini, with particular focus on its proximity to the high sea and critical technical considerations such as dredging requirements.

The Azumini–Obeaku Seaport project is being positioned as a major infrastructure development with the potential to transform Abia’s economy by improving trade logistics, attracting investment, and expanding Nigeria’s maritime capacity.

State officials expressed optimism that, with adequate funding, technical expertise, and strategic partnerships, the project could become a key driver of regional and national economic growth.
