Dangote Refinery Boosts U.S. Jet Fuel Supply As Demand Rises

In a move towards sustainable energy practices, Fluenta, the global leader in ultrasonic sensing technology for measuring flare gas, is set to deploy 18 ultrasonic flare gas meters at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.

This initiative comes as Nigerian authorities take a decisive step in leading the charge to regulate and ultimately eliminate routine gas flaring within the next few years.

Fluenta’s Director, Radek Kurkowski, emphasized the company’s commitment to the project, stating, “We have already completed our other works on the refinery.” He further elaborated, “Fluenta has completed work on the Dangote Refinery, Africa’s largest oil refinery, to install 18 ultrasonic flare gas meters on large pipelines around the plant.”

The significance of this endeavor lies in Nigeria’s pursuit of energy self-sufficiency and environmental responsibility. Despite being Africa’s leading oil producer, Nigeria imports refined petroleum products for its domestic consumption.

The Dangote Refinery, the world’s largest single-train refinery that commenced operations in May 2023, is poised to refine a staggering 650,000 barrels of oil per day—more than enough to meet Nigeria’s daily fuel requirements, with an additional surplus of 38 million liters of refined products earmarked for export.

Nigeria’s ambition to position itself as a global leader in emissions reduction is exemplified by its efforts to control and minimize gas flaring.

Flaring, the controlled combustion of excess or waste gases in the petroleum industry, is a practice aimed at preventing the release of potentially harmful gases into the atmosphere.

Accurate measurement of flare gas is integral to ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and identifying potential safety hazards.

Radek Kurkowski reiterated the importance of flare gas measurement and control, stating, “Flare gas measurement and control is vital to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and to help identify potential safety hazards.”

Fluenta’s involvement in this project signifies a step forward in aligning energy production with ecological responsibility, highlighting the commitment to a greener, more sustainable future.
