Bauchi Police Command’s Spokesperson, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil confirmed it in a statement made available to journalists.

He confirmed that the deceased baby was born on the 15th of August, 2023 and was murdered on the 19th of August, 2023 before the naming ceremony.

Wakil said the premilinary investigation revealed that the suspect, Furera, had entered the co-wife’s room with Gramalin, a liquid insecticide, and had applied it to the unhealed umbilical cord of the baby.

The suspected corrosive effects of the liquid insecticide caused the baby’s health to deteriorate and ultimately resulted in his death.

Wakil said further discreet investigation into the matter is ongoing, and once completed, the suspect will be appropriately and charged to court.
