World Athletics Championship: Amusan Qualifies For Women’s Hurdles Final In Budapest

August 23, 2023

World Record holder in the women’s 100m Hurdles Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan booked her place in the final of the women’s 100m hurdles at the World Athletics Championship in Budapest, Hungary Wednesday night.

Amusan won the Heat 2 of the semifinal on Day 5 of the Championship with a time of 12.56s and came through to overturn Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent’s early lead and qualify for her third consecutive World Athletics Championship final.

The 26-year-old was cleared to compete just few days before the start of the championship after she had been charged with three whereabouts failures, an anti-doping rule violation for missing three out of competition tests within a 12 month period.

The provisional suspension seemed not to have unsettled the Nigerian following her blistering form thus far.

It was gathered that the tribunal of three arbitrators exonerated Amusan from two out of the three tests after the Nigerian argued that the tester did not do enough from locating her.

Amusan will hope to defend her title in the final slated for Thursday evening, August 24, and possibly ensure that Nigeria finishes on the medal podium.

It could be recalled that another medal prospect, Ese Brume finished in fifth place in the long jump events while Ruth Usoro finished a disappointing 8th in Group B of the high jump events.
