ABC Heads Gainers’ List, Conoil Disappoints, As Stock Market Records Sluggish Growth

After trading closed on Wednesday, the Associated Bus Company (ABC) led the gainers’ table and Conoil topped the losers’ chart, with the Nigerian bourse rising by N2.26 billion in value.

This was disclosed in market data obtained from the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), which reported that the stock market capitalisation rose slightly to N35.844 trillion, from N35.842 trillion.

The All-Share Index inched higher by 4.14 basis points to 65,492.81 ASI, from 65,488.67 ASI. 

The stock market recorded N4.04 billion investment for 348.32 million shares traded in 6,237 deals on Wednesday, contrasting with the 293.46 million shares, worth N4.12 billion, exchanged in 5,895 deals on Tuesday.

Top five gainers 

  • Associated Bus Company’s share appreciated by 9.62 per cent to rise from N0.52 kobo to N0.57 kobo per share. 
  • Thomas Wyatt grew by N0.12 kobo, up from N1.29 kobo to N1.41 kobo per share.     
  • Transcorp Hotels ended trading with N40 from N36.70 kobo per share, rising by N3.30 kobo     
  • Courtville gained 8.33 per cent to end trading at N0.65 kobo, having opened with N0.60 kobo per share.      
  • Transcorp’s share was up by N0.32 kobo, closing at N4.80 kobo from N4.48 kobo per share. 

Top five losers

  • Conoil depreciated by N11, dwindling from N110 to N89 per share.       
  • DAAR Comm declined by 9.38 per cent to end trading at N0.29 kobo, after opening at N0.32 kobo per share.       
  • Redstar Express followed the same path, losing N0.28 kobo after trading hours, to sell at N2.92 kobo from N3.20 kobo per share.       
  • Tantalizer reported a decline of 8.33 per cent from the previous day’s share price of N0.36 kobo to end trading at N0.33 kobo per share.       
  • Eterna’s share depreciated to N15.60 kobo from N17, after losing N1.40 kobo during trading hours.  

Top five trading equities in the stock exchange 

  • Transcorp reported 144.71 million shares, valued at N682.61 million, were traded on its floor.       
  • Universal Insurance recorded 27.53 million shares valued at N5.63 million.     
  • Dangote Sugar saw investors trade 16.12 million shares valued at N632.58 million.     
  • Fidelity Bank recorded 15.80 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N111.21 million.     
  • Consolidated Hallmark Insurance reported 15.77 million shares, valued at N13 million, exchanged investors’ hands.
