Stock Market Cap Increases By N157.58bn, As Investments Rise

Following an increase in investment into the Nigerian stock market on Tuesday, the bourse’s capitalisation appreciated by 0.44 per cent or N157.58 billion.

This was disclosed by the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) which showed that the stock market capitalisation closed at N35.84 trillion, up from Monday’s N35.68 trillion.

The All-Share Index increased from 65,202.41 ASI to 65,488.67 ASI. It rose by 286.26 basis points. 

According to trading data, about 293.46 million shares, worth N4.12 billion, were traded in 5,895 deals on Tuesday, compared to Monday’s 231.59 million shares exchanged in 5,494 deals, valued at N3.99 billion. 

Top five gainers

  • Cornerstone’s share appreciated by N0.12 kobo to rise from N1.22 kobo to N1.34 kobo per share. 
  • CWG grew by N0.38 kobo, up from N3.90 kobo to N4.28 kobo per share.     
  • SCOA ended trading with N1.40 kobo from N1.28 kobo per share, rising by N0.12 kobo     
  • Associated Bus Company gained 8.33 per cent to end trading at N0.52 kobo, having opened with N0.48 kobo per share.      
  • BUA Foods’s share was up by N12.10 kobo, closing at N165 from N152.90 kobo per share.

Top five losers 

  • Chellaram depreciated by N0.44 kobo, dwindling from N4.40 kobo to N3.96 kobo per share.       
  • Sunu Assurance declined by 10 per cent to end trading at N0.72 kobo, after opening at N0.80 kobo per share.       
  • Nigerian Breweries followed the same path, losing N4.25 kobo after trading hours, to sell at N38.25 kobo from N42.50 kobo per share.       
  • John Holt reported a decline of N0.14 kobo from the previous day’s share price of N1.59 kobo to end trading at N1.45 kobo per share.       
  • Mutual Benefit’s share depreciated to N0.41 kobo from N0.44 kobo, after losing 6.82 per cent during trading hours.

Top five trading equities in the stock exchange 

  • Transcorp reported 41.44 million shares, valued at N185.04 million, were traded on its floor.       
  • Access Corporation recorded 36.15 million shares valued at N616.42 million.     
  • Fidelity Bank saw investors trade 32.10 million shares valued at N229.73 million.     
  • Omatek recorded 15 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N4.29 million.     
  • ETI reported 13.20 million shares, valued at N208.47 million, exchanged investors’ hands.
