Eterna, Okomu Oil, Others Wipe Off N157.37bn From Nigerian Stock Market

Over N157.37 billion was lost during trading on Monday as shares of Eterna and Okomu Oil, amongst others fell, dragging the valuation of the Nigerian bourse down by 0.44 per cent.

This led to the market capitalisation of the Nigerian stock exchange falling from N35.57 trillion, reported on Friday, to N35.41 trillion.

Also, the All-Share Index slumped to 65,036.37 ASI, shedding 289 basis points from Friday’s 65,325.37 ASI. 

Trading closed on Monday with 259.04 million shares exchanged in 5,899 deals, worth N4.20 billion. 

The day before, investors traded N8.36 billion for 489.69 million shares in 5,804 deals on Friday. 

Top five gainers 

  • Cornerstone’s share appreciated by N0.11 kobo to rise from N1.18 kobo to N1.29 kobo per share. 
  • Omatek grew by 8.82 per cent, up from N0.34 kobo to N0.37 kobo per share.     
  • TIP ended trading with N1.02 from N0.94 kobo per share, rising by 8.51 per cent.     
  • Chams gained 7.37 per cent to end trading at N1.02, having opened with N0.95 kobo per share.      
  • RT Briscoe’s stock was up by 6.98 per cent, closing at N0.46 kobo from N0.43 kobo per share. 

Top five losers 

  • Eterna depreciated by N1.95 kobo, dwindling from N19.70 kobo to N17.75 kobo per share.       
  • Sunu Assurances declined by N0.11 kobo to end trading at N1.04, after opening at N1.15 kobo per share.       
  • UPL followed the same path, losing N0.23 kobo after trading hours, to sell at N2.26 kobo from N2.49 kobo per share.       
  • FTN Cocoa reported a decline of N0.19 kobo from the previous day’s share price of N2.25 kobo to end trading at N2.06 per share.       
  • Okomu Oil’s share depreciated to N250 from N265, after losing N15 during trading hours.  

Top five trading equities in the stock exchange 

  • Transcorp reported 41.76 million shares, valued at N167.93 million, were traded on its floor.       
  • Access Corporation recorded 18.15 million shares valued at N312.69 million.     
  • GTCO saw investors trade 15.56 million shares valued at N585.09 million.     
  • Sterling Financial Holdings recorded 14.18 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N50.99 million.     
  • UBA reported 13 million shares, valued at N185.37 million, exchanged investors’ hands.
