Mr. P Criticizes ECOWAS 'Standby Force' Activation In Niger  As 'Total Madness'

Nigerian music artiste, Peter Okoye, known by his stage name as Mr. P, has condemned the decision taken by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in dealing with the political crisis in the Niger Republic.

Okoye offered his perspective on the outcome of Thursday’s 2nd extraordinary meeting of ECOWAS held in Abuja last Thursday.

Omar Alieu Touray, the President of ECOWAS Commission, announced during the meeting that the regional organisation had would its standby force to restore constitutional order within the Niger Republic.

Touray firmly asserted the regional body’s opposition to the military take over of government in Niger and added that sanctions would be imposed on the coup leaders with immediate effect.

Touray emphasized that ECOWAS remains steadfast in its dedication to achieving the restoration of constitutional governance through peaceful channels.

Sharing his viewpoint on the recent developments via his Twitter handle, Mr P wrote: “Africa joins the West to fight Africa. Total madness.”

In addition, the musician accused the West African leaders under ECOWAS of aligning with Western nations in a manner that goes against the interests of fellow Africans.
