Athletics Federation of Nigeria releases list of 38 for Budapest

Tobi Amusan tops a list of four high profile athletes missing from Nigeria’s contingent to the 2023 World Athletics Championship in Budapest, Hungary following the recent investigation by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) into her absence from three mandatory drugs test.

The ‘whereabout’ test is made compulsory for all professional athletes who must intimate the ruling body of their calendar of events for the year and locations.

Random tests could be carried out by the AIU including for athletes in the collegiates.

Amusan was conspicuously missing from the list released by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria and made available to the sporting media.

Also missing out from the Budapest part due to illness is Godson Brume, as well as the duo of Udodi Owuzuruike and Mike Edwards.

Godson Brume’s sister, Ese, is widely considered as the biggest medal prospect from the list of athletes that made the cut.

Edwards is currently working as part of a three-member panel of jury in the Big Brother Naija All-Stars Show.

The reality television star was part of the country’s last appearance at the World Athletics Championship in Oregon, USA in 2022.

The event begins on August 19 and runs until August 27.
