The duo of Desire Oparanozie and Michelle Alozie missed their spot kicks but it was too little, too late as the English girls conveyed four of theirs.

Rasheedat Ajibade and Christy Ucheibe scored from 12 yards in the penalty shootout.

The country’s number one citizen took to his official Twitter handle to send a greeting of appreciation to the nine-time African champions.

“I must commend the effort by our Super Falcons @NGSuper_Falcons at the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Your brilliant performance did not go unnoticed despite the final outcome. You made Nigeria proud on the global stage!

The Three Lionesses of England will face Colombia or Jamaica on Saturday for a place in the semi-finals.

Colombia and Jamaica will faceoff on Tuesday.

The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand have seen big hitters like Brazil, USA and Canada eliminated with a few upsets recorded in the group stages.

Tinubu had similarly commended Nigeria’s women basketball national team for winning a fourth consecutive FIBA Afrobasketball Championship in Kigali, Rwanda over the weekend.
