FAAN Bans Taxi From Abuja Airport, Recommends Uber, Others

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has banned traditional taxi services at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

FAAN restricted the operation of traditional services but recommended the public should use e-hailing services like Uber, Bolt and other alternative means of transportation.

The ban affected the airport taxi services due to a factional tussle ongoing within their association, which FAAN said has affected transportation services in the airport.

In a statement signed by FAAN’s Director, Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, the airport authority said after the factional dispute has been resolved, the ban will be lifted.

“The FAAN wishes to inform the general public that the airport car hire service at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja has been suspended with immediate effect.

“This is as a result of the unresolved factional dispute among the car hire operators which has been affecting airport car hire service operations,” FAAN said.

Suggesting other transportation alternatives to airport users and the general public, FAAN said: “Consequent upon this suspension, FAAN management advises the general public and all airport users, particularly our esteemed passengers to use secured alternative means of transportation or e-hailing services in and out of the airport.

“The management of FAAN regrets any inconvenience this necessary suspension may cause our esteemed passengers, airport users and the general public. Normal Car Hire Services resumes as soon as their differences are resolved.”

Meanwhile, Prime Business Africa previously reported that two Kano-bound flights were diverted to Lagos by the airport authority due to bad lighting on the runway.

FAAN said the Runway 06/24 edge light at the Mallam Aminu Kano Airport, Kano, failed to come up after the scheduled daily maintenance work of replacing old and weak Airfield cables with new ones at the runway.

“The maintenance team immediately initiated fault-finding procedures along the cable route to identify the problem and restore power to the airfield lighting circuit.

“It was however observed that the entire runway circuit was affected, leading to the failure of the Runway 06/24 edge light, the Taxiway Alpha edge light, PAPI, and signage,” FAAN said.
