Prime Business Africa reports that Chairman of the APC Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, received and accepted the resignation of former Party Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, on the orders of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
A senior member of the National Working Committee (NWC) late Sunday night disclosed that Governor Uzodinma was also mandated to ensure smooth handover to Adamu’s “next-in-line” pending the official election of substantive replacement.

PBA had exclusively reported the resignation of the chairman allegedly on the orders of the President following unverified allegations by NWC members against him. Some NWC members, who spoke to our correspondent in Abuja, also pointed to a 2022 Audit report which they claimed was “surreptitiously” procured without allowing them to make inputs.
The former Governor of Nasarawa State and Nigerian Senator was said to have handed his resignation letter to Governor Uzodinma who, PBA gathered, had carried out President Tinubu’s order in ensuring that Adamu tendered his resignation. Governor Uzodinma, according to APC sources, “will oversee the transition of power to a new acting chairman very soon.”
Part of the actions expected from the Imo governor in the coming days would be determine if the scheduled meeting should still hold on Monday or to appoint new dates for the NWC, Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings of the ruling party.
Before Adamu’s resignation on Sunday night, the APC leadership had struggled with the dates for the meetings due to internal disagreements. Specifically, the party was forced to reschedule last week’s meetings to July 17, 18 and 19.
It, however, remains unclear if the ruling party will proceed with today’s NWC meeting and Tuesday and Wednesday’s Causus and NEC meetings as rescheduled by the former chairman or wait for Governor Uzodinma to fix new dates.
There were reports of disagreement between Adamu and the President’s camp since the emergence of Tinubu as President on May 29, 2023, a situation that once forced the former chairman to make public statements declaring his loyalty.

Some of the odds against the former APC chairman was his perceived support for the presidential candidacy of former Senate President Ahmed Lawan against that of Tinubu in the run-up to APC primaries last year. Senator Adamu has since declared that he played major role in Tinubu’s victory despite his support for Lawan.
As of Sunday night shortly after PBA broke the news of his resignation, Adamu was on TVC debunking rumours of a cold war between him and President Tinubu.
