CAF Executive Committee Set To Meet, Morocco Favourites For 2025 AFCON Hosting Rights

July 6, 2023

Ahead Saturday’s final match of the CAF U23 Africa Cup of Nations in Rabat, Morocco, the CAF Executive Committee will meet on Friday (July 8) to deliberate on a number of football matters.

Among subjects for deliberations including the on-going bidding process of CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2025 and CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2027.

The front runners for the two events are Morocco and Algeria respectively.

It is anticipated that Morocco, owing to facilities available and the organisational skills that the kingdom has shown, is expected to be named as hosts of the 2025 edition.

That will most likely put the continent’s premier competition back on its originally set timetable.

Since the 2013 edition when CAF opted for the odd year in the hosting of the competition, the Africa Cup of Nations has never been held on the expected time and location.

The 2019 edition for instance had a change of hosting rights while that of 2021 had to be held in 2022. Again, the 2023 edition will hold in 2024. The 2025 edition was originally slated for Guinea before the hosting rights were cancelled.

Morocco have a chain of success to lean on for the kingdom to be considered as the appropriate hosts for the 2025 edition.

The Executive Committee will also discuss the up-coming 45th CAF Ordinary General Assembly that will be hosted in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire on 13 July 2023.

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivorie is less than 200 days to to go before the continent’s beat 24 teams will battle for the ultimate prize.
