Wimbledon 2023: Would Djokovic Remain Top Favourite?

July 3, 2023

The 2023 Wimbledon men’s singles tournament opens on Monday, July 3, at the All England Club with huge nerves as the players themselves and fans wait to see if the regular, older winners or new stars will be born.

It hasn’t even been three weeks since the French Open concluded, but Wimbledon is already here.

The experienced stars like Novak Djokovic are tipped for glory but current number 1 seed Carlos Alcaraz who will be hard pressed for his second grand slam after recently lifting the… Will be one to watch out for.

Djokovic recently set the men’s record with a 23rd grand slam title and is also the four-time reigning Wimbledon champion.

Other candidates for the title include Daniil Medvedev, Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev. Nick Kyrgios pulled out of the tournament due to injury.

Medvedev is the No. 3 seed with a grand slam title under his belt, but he was an early casualty at the 2023 French Open and lost to lower seeds at both the Terra Wortmann Open and the Libema Open before arriving at Wimbledon.

The men’s Wimbledon showpiece is more unpredictable than the women’s version with the absence of the now retired Serena Williams looming large.

The action begins on Monday and the only person who is capable of beating Djokovic is Djokovic himself. If he plays his best tennis at Wimbledon — he is Wimbledon champion.

As the grass court major gets underway on Monday in London, there’s a lot to be excited about.

From Novak Djokovic’s quest for a record-setting 24th Grand Slam title to Venus Williams in the women’s game breaking the record for most main draw Wimbledon appearances, this looks to be a tournament for the history books.

What will be more intriguing for the supporters of the tennis game is if the younger generation will rise to the occasion and upset the old order.

Djokovic spoke out last week about the new money craze in Saudi Arabia whose clubs have focused on bringing the best football talents to the kingdom.

Tennis is another sport that could see many tournaments holding in the country and perhaps even some talents changing allegiance.
