The Commonwealth Secretariat has launched its Young Professionals Programme (YPP), offering an array of opportunities for talented individuals from Commonwealth countries to actively engage in essential activities. The program aims to transfer technical expertise, innovative ideas, and specialist knowledge.

The vacancies include positions such as Assistant Research Officer in various directorates, each offering a two-year fixed-term contract with an annual salary of £29,070. Prospective candidates are encouraged to apply for their desired positions before the application deadline on July 10, 2023.

The Young Professionals Programme seeks to attract young professionals with exceptional skills and qualifications, providing them with avenues to contribute to the organization’s important work.

By facilitating the transfer of technical expertise, innovative ideas, and specialist knowledge, the program enables young individuals to actively participate in addressing the challenges faced by Commonwealth countries.

As outlined in the available vacancies, the Assistant Research Officers will contribute to specific directorates within the Commonwealth Secretariat.

For example, the Assistant Research Officer (Trade Competitiveness) will engage in academic and practice-oriented research to understand complex situations and realities in the changing world of trade. Similarly, the Assistant Research Officer (Office of the Secretary-General) will conduct comprehensive research to comprehend rapidly evolving global contexts.

Other positions include the Assistant Research Officer (Economic, Youth & Sustainable Development Directorate), who will address intricate economic and sustainable development issues, and the Assistant Research Officer (Governance and Peace Directorate), responsible for providing program, office, and research services to the Governance and Peace Directorate. International travel may be required for some of these roles.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the program, applicants must be citizens of a Commonwealth country and be 27 years old or younger at the time of application closure.

They should possess a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in a relevant field and have a minimum of one year of proven work experience in project or program design and implementation related to development or democracy.

The Commonwealth, comprised of 56 member governments, provides policy guidance, technical assistance, and advisory services to its member countries, supporting them in achieving sustainable, inclusive, and equitable development. The organization plays a crucial role in shaping policies and offering expertise in various areas.
