President Joe Biden took a stance on the ongoing strike by the Writers Guild of America during his remarks before a special screening of the new Disney+ series “American Born Chinese” at the White House.

His comments resonated with the crowd, receiving applause, as he emphasized the need for a “fair deal” to be reached swiftly.

The White House had previously refrained from commenting on the situation, but after the Writers Guild of America declared a strike on May 1 due to failed contract negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, President Biden decided to address the matter.

During his speech, President Biden acknowledged the power of storytelling and stressed the significance of treating storytellers with the dignity, respect, and value they deserve.

He expressed his sincere hope for a swift resolution to the writers’ strike in Hollywood, ensuring that they receive the fair deal they deserve. Recognizing the iconic and meaningful nature of the American entertainment industry, he underscored the importance of the writers, along with all the workers and individuals involved, in telling the stories of the nation and its people.

Later that evening, the Writers Guild of America, East shared a video of President Biden’s comments, amplifying his support for the striking writers.

The event itself was part of the administration’s celebration of Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and the President was joined by Ke Huy Quan, one of the stars of the series “American Born Chinese.”

As the writers strike enters its second week, picket lines continue to draw strong crowds in both Los Angeles and New York, indicating the determination and solidarity of the striking writers in their pursuit of fair working conditions and compensation.

The involvement of President Biden in addressing the strike adds a significant voice of support to the cause, raising awareness about the essential role of writers in shaping the narratives that define our nation and culture.
