The National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday adjourned its  meeting with its President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for a wider meeting to ratify his choices for National Assembly and Senate leaderships.

Prime Business Africa (PBA) had, on Friday morning, reported exclusively that  Tinubu had picked Abbas Tajudeen from Kaduna as his choice for Speaker of the House of Representatives when inaugurated, and would be meeting with the APC NWC to make his intentions official.

The exclusive report also stated that Tinubu would be insisting on Godswill Akpabio and Jibrin Barau as President and Deputy President of the Senate respectively.

The meeting took place at 11 am on Friday as reported by PBA; with the Chairman, National Secretary and the two National Vice chairmen for North and South in attendance.

PBA Correspondent reliably gathered that after due brioefing from Tinubu, the National  Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, adjourned the meeting to convene a larger audience on Monday, May 8, to get the entire NWC members ratify his choices.

Adamu was said to have instructed the National Secretary Omisore to subsequent notice of meeting  for the Monday date.  A copy of the notice which was issued shortly after the Friday meeting was sighted by PBA. It reads:

“Distinguished colleagues, good afternoon. HE Senator Adamu Abdullahi, the national chair, man advised: SPECIAL NWC MEETING MONDAY 8th May 2023 at 12 noon. Venue: NWC meeting room.”

Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election held on March 25, has been dogged by controversy, with local and international bodies condemning the processes and the conduct of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) as lacking in transparency and credibility.  Two major opposition political  parties – the Labour Party and the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP)  have challenged the outcomes in an election tribunal. Perter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party is challenging the results announced by the Mahmood Yakubu-led INEC and has raised issues bordering on eligibility of Tinubu and his deputy, Kashim Shettima.
