1. Naira Crisis: NLC Meets Tuesday to Reconsider Strike As CBN Opens Vault To Banks

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has scheduled to meet on Tuesday, 28th March to review cash availability across the nation and know whether to go ahead with the planned nationwide strike or shelve it.

2. Nigeria’s Senate Presidency: APC May Consider Southern Senator

With the National Assembly polls over, attention has shifted to the election of principal officers of the 10th Assembly, with the Senate President position being considered by APC leadership to be zoned to the Southern part of the country.

This is even as some senators from North-Central and North-West have also shown interest in the number three citizen position.

The incumbent President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, who has been in the seat for almost years, is from Yobe State in the northeast geopolitical zone.

3. PDP Crisis Deepens As Ayu Gets Suspended By His Ward In Benue

The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a different turn on Sunday with the suspension of the national chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu by his ward council.

The ward executives claimed they passed a vote of no confidence and suspended Iyiochia Ayu as a member of PDP, Igyorov council ward of Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.

They accused him of working against the party during the last general elections and that he had failed to pay his annual subscription fee as provided in Section 8, subsection 9 of the PDP Constitution, 2017, as amended.

4. Over 160m Children Engaged In Child Labour Globally, Says ILO

The International Labour Organization (ILO), has lamented that about 160 million children are actively engaged in child labour globally.

This is even as the Nigerian Government has said that not less than 15 million children were involved in child labour in the country.

5. 2023 Adamawa Guber Polls: Gov Fintiri, APC’s Binani Trade Accusations of Irregularities

As the 2023 gubernatorial election in Adamawa State slides into a stalemate, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)  declaring it inconclusive, the incumbent governor, and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Sen Aishatu Binani, have accused each other of plotting to rig the election.

Binani called on INEC to review the election results in 16 local government areas, saying the results were manipulated in favour of the PDP governor in those areas.

Fintiri on his part dismissed the allegation, saying they the allegations of rigging by Binani were unfounded.

The Commission has scheduled to conduct a rerun in places where elections were cancelled on Saturday, 15th April.

6. 2022 Osun Guber Poll: We’ll Seek Further Redress At Supreme Court – APC Legal Adviser

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has said that the party and its candidate for the July 16 governorship election in the state, Adegboyega Oyetola, have concluded plans to approach the Supreme Court to appeal the judgement of the Appeal Court.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja had on Friday set aside the tribunal judgment that nullified the election of Ademola Adeleke as the Governor of Osun State.

7. Cash Scarcity Persists Despite CBN’s Directives

In line with the directive of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), banks that banks should dispense and accept the old N500 and N1000 notes, Naira scarcity still persists, especially in Lagos.

8. Headwinds From Trapped Funds, Litigations May Hinder Nigeria Airs Takeoff

The plan by the Nigerian government to begin the operation of Nigeria Air before a new administration comes into power has been dismissed by stakeholders in the country’s aviation industry who said the airline may not fly before 29th May 2023, if certain issues were not resolved.

According to the stakeholders, things to be put in place include the repatriation of trapped funds belonging to the international airlines operating in the country and the Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA), among others.

9. Oil Production Rises to 1.7 million Bpd – FG

The Nigerian government has revealed that oil production has increased to 1.7 million barrels per day.

The Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi, who made the disclosure said the increase in oil production was due to renewed onslaught against crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region. Theft has been a major factor affecting the output which has also seen the country being able to meet the OPEC quota.

10. My Victory Was By Divine Intervention – Abia Governor-elect, Otti

Abia State Governor-elect, Dr Alex Otti, has said his victory during the election was made possible by divine intervention, given the array of forces that worked against his emergence.

Otti, who was seeking to be elected as governor of the southeast state for the third time, was declared winner of the 18th March governorship election after a series of hiccups that led to the suspension of result collation at some points by the INEC.
