THE Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has ordered the caretaker committee of Auto Spare Parts and Machinery Dealers Association of Nigeria (ASPAMDA) to resolve its leadership crises by conducting elections in the next 60 to 90 days.

The leadership crises at the ASPAMDA market began in 2018, when the executive tried to extend their tenure in office.

Sanwo-Olu asked the interim caretaker committee led by Sunday Igboanuzuo as Chairman, and Emeka Chukwueloka as Secretary to put an end to their protracted reign and return power to elected officials in the market.

The caretaker committee was originally appointed to conduct elections within 30 days in 2018 after the former leadership was asked to step down. The caretaker committee however failed to conduct election and had been in office since.

The Governor, on August 7, 2021, held a meeting with all stakeholders of ASPAMDA and directed that a fresh election should be held.

He said the state government would provide security and other logistics that would enable the conduct of a free and fair election within the said period.

Sanwo-Olu also stated that the state would monitor developments to ensure that the directives were carried out.

According to the Governor, the election will end the protracted leadership crises in ASPAMDA and install an atmosphere of peace and harmony needed to maximise its business potential.
