Inspector General of Police IGP Usman Alkali Baba has ordered an internal review of the allegations against one of the personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, DCP Abba Kyari.

In a press release on Thursday evening, the Force Public Relations Officer, CP Frank Mba, said the IG’s order is sequel to the receipt of allegations and indictment processes from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) against DCP Kyari.

Recall that Prime Business Africa reported that embattled Nigerian Instagram celebrity, Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Ray Hushpuppi, indicted Nigeria’s celebrated police officer, Abba Kyari, in his ongoing trial for internet fraud in the United States.

CP Mba in his statement titled “Alleged Indictment of DCP Abba Kyari: Inspector-General of Police Orders a Review of the Information”, said that the Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its commitment to the pursuit of justice and the strengthening of its professional relationship with the FBI and other international partners.

He said that further developments on this case will be communicated to members of the public accordingly.

According to a court document, Hushpuppi alleged that he bribed Kyari, a deputy commissioner of police (DCP) to have one of his rivals, Kelly Chibuzor Vincent, arrested and jailed in Nigeria following a dispute over the $1.1 million fraud that victimised a Qatari businessman.

Acting on the allegation, Otis Wright of the United States District Court for the Central District of California issued a warrant order of arrest for Kyari.

The court ordered the FBI to track down Kyari and Prosecute him in the United States for his role in a multi-million dollar fraud perpetrated by Hushpuppi and his conspirators.

Kyari had since denied the allegation, saying that he never collected any money from Hushpuppi.

“Nobody demanded any money from Abbas (Hushpuppi) and nobody collected any money from him. We responded to a distress call he made on threat to his family and released the Suspect when we discovered there was no life threat from the Suspect. This is the true story. Vincent is alive, he can be contacted.

“For those who are celebrating that this is an indictment on us and mentioning some fictitious Big Money, They will be disappointed once again as our hands are clean and our record of Service for 2 decades is open for everybody to See. They will continue seeing us serving our father land and we will continue responding to distress calls from all Nigerians provided they are life-threatening.

“For Good Nigerians who appreciate our Service please don’t worry as our hands are clean and they should please not respond to those celebrating and creating many false Narratives without any Evidence. We are used to such types of people and false newsmakers and distributors.

“Thank you all and GOD bless Nigeria,” Kyari said in a post he made on his verified Instagram page.
