Kerber Announces Absence From US Open Due To Pregnancy

Three-time Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber has disclosed that she will withdraw from the 2022 US Open which tees off on Monday, August 29.

Kerber made this known with a cryptic message on her Twitter page on Wednesday that she will be taking a break from tennis with the following messages.

“I really wanted to play @theusOpen but I decided that Two against one just isn’t a fair competition,” Kerber wrote.

“For the next months, I will take a break from traveling the globe as a tennis player but then again, I believe it’s for the best possible reason. I will miss all of you,” Kerber wrote Wednesday as she posted a string of emojis that included a baby bottle.

The 34-year-old German won the title at Flushing Meadows in 2016 to rise to No. 1 in the WTA rankings. She also won the Australian Open that year and added a Wimbledon championship in 2018.

The US Open is the last grandslam of the calendar year in professional tennis.
