In a statement released on Monday from the consulate’s Public Affairs Section (PAS), the mission commended staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and personnel of security agencies for diligently working to ensure a peaceful and secure atmosphere under which the election was conducted across the 30 Local Government Areas in the state.

The US Mission also urged all Nigerian citizens to register and get their Permanent Voters Cards to be eligible to vote during the 2023 elections and beyond.

The statement reads, “The United States Mission to Nigeria congratulates the citizens of Osun State on the peaceful gubernatorial elections on July 16.

“We commend the concerted efforts of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) staff and security personnel who helped facilitate a secure process that reflected the will of the people.

“We encourage all Nigerian citizens to register to vote now so that your voice can be heard in the national and state elections in 2023.”

The election that was held across the 332 wards and 3,763 polling units in the state, saw Adeleke winning with 403, 371 votes against the incumbent governor, Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who scored 375,027.
