The Blues are believed to be finalising the move with Manchester City ahead of a transfer in the region of £45million. Sterling, 27, will be allowed to leave for a reasonable price similar to that of Gabriel Jesus’ transfer to Arsenal due to his contract expiring next year.

Chelsea will hope to complete the move before they fly to the United States on Saturday, where they will play Club America, Charlotte FC and Arsenal.

It is believed Sterling’s decision to leave the Premier League champions after seven years stems from his desire to play more regularly and the promise of a new challenge.

And he was swayed by manager Tuchel’s personal talks with the Englishman, according to the Mirror, with the German having discussed his ambitions for Sterling during one of their constructive conversations.

The Mirror’s John Cross who has religiously followed the Blues’ transfer dealings tweeted on Wednesday (July 6):

“Raheem Sterling has agreed personal terms, taken decision to leave Manchester City to join Chelsea. Confirmation of fee shortly.”
