Sports Ministry Summons NFF Over 2022 World Cup Failure

April 3, 2022

The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has expressed dismay over the failure of the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar reports Prime Business Africa.

Nigeria on Tuesday 29 March played out a 1-1 draw with the Black Stars of Ghana after both sides finished their first leg fixture goalless with the Ghanaians the lucky side to book a ticket to Qatar courtesy of an away goal rule.

The Ministry has consequently directed the Federation to appear for an emergency meeting on Monday, April 4.

The outcome of the qualifying campaign led to the disengagement of the entire technical bench of the team led by Austin Eguavoen by the NFF but the ministry is not satisfied with the decision so far.

Many Nigerian football faithful have called for the resignation of the Nigeria Football Federation heirachy whose tenure elapses in September 2022.

The NFF boss is a member of the FIFA committee and was in Doha on Friday for the 2022 FIFA World Cup draw.
