NGX Resumes Trading With N259bn Loss, Records Over N34bn Deals

There was a pullback in the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) on Wednesday, after the stock market returned from Tuesday’s public holiday, which was observed to mark the Eid ul Mawlid.

The NGX said the market capitalisation of the bourse decreased by N259.76 billion to N154.13 trillion, falling below the N154.39 trillion reported on Monday.

This followed a 402.25 basis points loss by the all-share index (ASI), which plummeted from 239,085.17 ASI to 238,682.92 ASI.

Trading closed with investors sealing 49,210 deals, after exchanging 733.35 million shares, valued at N34.52 billion, compared to the 45,894 deals recorded on Monday, when 668.71 million shares, worth N23.82 billion, were traded.

Top Five Gainers

  • Neimeth’s share price increased by N0.70 kobo, from N7.25 kobo to N7.95 kobo per share.
  • LotusHal15’s share ended trading at N125 per share, from N115.25 kobo per share – indicating an increase of N9.75 kobo.
  • NEM share value grew by N2, from N30 to N32 per share.
  • FGSUK2027S3’s share appreciated by N6 to end trading at N96, having opened at N90.
  • Regal Insurance share value was up by 6.25 percent, after closing at N0.85 kobo, from N0.80 kobo per share.

Top Five Losers

  • Fidson Healthcare’s share price depreciated by N9.35 kobo, dwindling from N93.55 kobo to N84.20 kobo per share.
  • FTN Cocoa recorded a N0.86 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N7.79 kobo, after opening with N8.65 kobo.
  • International Energy Insurance reported a N0.34 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N3.15 kobo, after opening with N3.49 kobo per share.
  • Livestock lost N0.75 kobo in its share price, to sell at N7.20 kobo, down from N7.95 kobo per share.
  • Omatek reported a decline of N0.13 kobo, from the previous share price of N1.38 kobo, to end trading at N1.25 kobo per share.

Top Five Trading Equities

  • Fortis Global Insurance reported that 134 million shares valued at N267.97 million were traded on its floor.
  • First HoldCo recorded 88.93 million shares valued at N11.06 billion.
  • Access Holdings saw investors trade 32.65 million of its shares valued at N910.46 million.
  • Zenith Bank recorded 30.86 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N3.71 billion.
  • Veritas Kapital reported that traders exchanged 28.62 million shares valued at N34.11 million.
