Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), has denied an allegation made by one Mr Daniel Ikechukwu Mmaduachi, that the agency was involved in collecting money for employment of personnel.

A statement signed by Filade Olumide, the Assistant Director, Public Affairs, LASTMA, described the piece as one full of sensation, mischief and propaganda.

The agency picked hole on some of the issues raised by the writer, stating that he could not be certain to conclude that it was LASTMA officials he saw sharing monies when he went to get drivers’ licence at Oshodi, pointing out that their office does not share the same compound with the agency that issues driver’s licences.

It also countered the writer in the assertion that “the level of extortionextortion in Lagos is disheartening”, stating that it is completely wrong.

General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Bolaji Oreagba , however, said the piece was an indictment on the agency, and a call for the management to “look inwards and instill more discipline into the personnel.”

“We at LASTMA cannot dispute the facts that some officers may step out of line by collecting grafts.”

Oreagba emphasized that the process of administrative action and discipline is ongoing in the agency with the intent of having well-behaved, decent and dedicated personnel that will serve the motorists better on Lagos roads.

“It is also imperative to state that as we strenghten enforcement and with its resultant effects of hassle-free traffic flow and better travel time, it is expected that some people who do not see any good things in this administration will result into mischief and propaganda.”

The LASTMA boss pledged that the agency will continue working towards preventing lawlessness on Lagos roads and promoting discipline, sanity, and order through the application of enforcement with civility and technology to achieve voluntary compliance on the roads.

The agency stated that it has various windows through which complaints can be channeled for prompt investigation and action.
