The government of Togo has announced a visa exemption policy for all African nationals holding valid national passports, in a move aimed at deepening continental integration and boosting regional mobility, Prime Business Africa reports.
According to a statement issued on Monday by Togo’s Minister of Security, Colonel Calixte Batossie Madjoulba, the new policy took immediate effect on May 18, 2026, following a decision by the President of the Council.
The measure allows citizens of African countries to enter Togolese territory without a visa for stays of up to 30 days.

Authorities said the decision reflects the country’s commitment to promoting African unity, strengthening the free movement of people and goods, and enhancing cooperation among African states and peoples.
The government noted that the initiative forms part of broader reforms designed to position Togo as a regional hub for business, services, culture, and intra-African exchanges.

The statement further described the policy as a reaffirmation of the Togolese leadership’s support for Pan-African ideals, continental solidarity, and regional integration commitments relating to mobility across Africa.
Despite the visa waiver, the Ministry of Security stressed that travelers would still be required to comply with existing immigration, security, and public health regulations.
Officials explained that travelers must complete a prior travel declaration through the government’s online platform before arrival. The registration, which must be submitted at least 24 hours before entry, is intended to facilitate administrative and security screening procedures at border points.
The ministry also clarified that the exemption does not override legal provisions relating to irregular migration, illegal stay, or national security enforcement measures.
Relevant authorities across land, air, and sea entry points have been directed to ensure the immediate implementation of the new policy.
