The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Yemi Oyeniyi, has directed officers of the command to strictly adhere to discipline, civility, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties, warning that misconduct will not be tolerated, Prime Business Africa reports.
Oyeniyi issued the directive on Sunday during a high-level meeting with senior officers, including Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Heads of Departments, convened to address concerns over personnel conduct within the command.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, the police chief emphasised the need for full compliance with the rules and regulations of the Nigeria Police Force, as well as strict adherence to established Standard Operating Procedures.

He stressed that the Force leadership would not accept excuses from officers who fail to uphold expected standards, noting that discipline remains central to effective policing.
The commissioner also expressed concern over reported cases of incivility by some officers, reminding personnel that policing is fundamentally a public service. He charged officers to maintain professionalism, politeness, and respect in all interactions with members of the public.
Oyeniyi further tasked senior officers with ensuring proper supervision of their subordinates, urging them to take responsibility for guiding and correcting erring personnel while fostering morale and projecting a positive image of the Force.
He directed that the resolutions of the meeting be communicated across all formations within the state command to ensure full compliance.

As part of measures to enhance accountability and public trust, the commissioner instructed senior officers to remain accessible and make their official phone numbers available to members of the public.
The CP also announced a reorganisation of the command’s tactical teams in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at improving operational effectiveness and supervision.
The Delta State Police Command reiterated its commitment to upholding professional standards, safeguarding citizens’ rights, and ensuring effective and accountable policing across the state.
