Fresh concerns have surfaced within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) after former Labour Party presidential candidate, , hinted at the possibility of leaving the party if its internal processes are compromised, Prime Business Africa reports.

Obi made the remarks during an interview on on Monday night, where he reflected on his history of party defections, maintaining that his decisions have consistently been guided by principle rather than personal ambition.

The former Anambra State governor recounted his move from the (APGA) to the (PDP), attributing the decision to disagreements with his successor.

“I moved from APGA to the PDP because of issues with my successor. Rather than allow it to become toxic and destructive to governance, I chose to step aside,” he said.

Obi, however, noted that his experience in the PDP was also fraught with challenges, describing the party’s internal system as largely transactional and lacking adherence to due process.

“People were not playing by the rules. It was transactional. I cannot be part of transactional primaries. I cannot be paying people to go and serve them,” he stated.

He explained that similar concerns informed his eventual move to the Labour Party, adding that the same systemic issues persist across political platforms.

According to him, his current engagement with the ADC is not exempt from scrutiny, warning that he would not hesitate to take a stand if the party’s internal processes are undermined.

“I’m in ADC with the same people, some of whom have left PDP and other parties, but we are going through the same process. If that process is again compromised, I will speak out,” Obi said.

He stressed his long-standing position against electoral malpractice, insisting that he has never participated in election rigging at any level.

“If I have to move 20 times, I will. I have never been involved in rigging—whether at the primaries, during elections, or after,” he added.

Obi’s comments are expected to heighten tensions within the ADC, raising questions about internal cohesion and the party’s ability to manage dissent ahead of future political contests.
