The Obidient Movement Worldwide on Saturday accused Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress of plotting to undermine the 2027 presidential ambition of Peter Obi.
Speaking at a press conference in Kano, the group’s national coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, alleged that efforts were underway to deny Obi a viable political platform through what he described as “orchestrated crisis and institutional interference.”
Tanko said the alleged moves began after the 2023 elections, accusing the ruling party of fuelling internal disputes within the Labour Party to weaken Obi’s support base.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelHe also cited what he called conflicting judicial actions, claiming that despite an April 2025 ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria on the party’s leadership, subsequent decisions by lower courts undermined that judgment.
The group said Obi exited the Labour Party on Dec. 31, 2025, following a prolonged internal crisis and later aligned with the African Democratic Congress.
It added that Obi’s involvement in the ADC, including his engagement with political figures such as Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, had heightened political tensions.
The movement also linked recent developments, including the reported delisting of ADC leadership following an Appeal Court ruling, to what it described as attempts to weaken opposition forces.
“The trend is a blatant scheme to undermine democracy, impose a one-party system and deny Nigerians credible choices,” the group said.

It called on electoral authorities and the judiciary to ensure a level playing field for all candidates and warned that excluding opposition figures from the process could erode public confidence in Nigeria’s democracy.
The group also urged Nigerians, particularly youths and women, to remain vigilant ahead of the 2027 elections.
