Tinubu Marks 74th Birthday Quietly, Cites National Mood

March 29, 2026

Bola Tinubu says he will mark his 74th birthday with a low-key observance, citing the country’s current mood and ongoing challenges.

In a personally signed statement on Sunday, the president thanked Nigerians for their goodwill messages, prayers and support, saying the gesture continues to strengthen his administration.

“Consistent with my tradition of marking my birthday in line with the mood of the nation, I resolved to observe this year’s birthday in a low-key manner,” he said.

Tinubu expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the country and acknowledged individuals and groups who publicly celebrated him, including those who placed newspaper adverts and sponsored broadcast airtime.

He also thanked First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for their remarks.

Reflecting on his administration, the president said reforms introduced since he took office have come with challenges but are beginning to yield results.

“I’m glad that our sacrifices have not been in vain, as we can see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel,” he said, while noting that global tensions, particularly in the Middle East, have created setbacks.

Tinubu said the progress recorded so far is a collective effort and not attributable to him alone.

“With your continued support, we shall overcome,” he said.
