Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has condemned the assault of women and girls during the Alue-Do Festival in Ozoro, Delta State, describing the incident as “barbaric” and a gross violation of human dignity, Prime Business Africa reports.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the First Lady said she was deeply disturbed by viral footage showing victims subjected to physical and sexual abuse during what was meant to be a cultural celebration in Isoko North Local Government Area.

While acknowledging Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity, she stressed that no tradition or custom justifies violence against women and girls.

“I hold deep respect for the diverse cultures and traditions that define us as a people, but no custom grants any man the right to violate the dignity or freedom of any woman or girl,” she said.

She also urged victims to seek appropriate medical and psychological support, offering prayers for their healing and recovery.

“I pray for your healing, peace and strength at this difficult time,” she added.

The Ozoro incident has drawn widespread condemnation, with authorities intensifying investigations and arrests following public outrage over the disturbing videos circulating online.
