The Delta State Government and the Delta State Police Command have condemned a viral video showing the alleged s*xual assault of women in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area, vowing that perpetrators will be identified and prosecuted, Prime Business Africa reports.
The footage, which surfaced on Friday, captured scenes of young women being harassed and assaulted by groups of men during what was described by some individuals as a “r*ping festival.” In the video, victims were seen crying out for help, while a male voice claimed that any woman who came outside during the period would be attacked.
Reacting to the development, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Delta State Governor, Mr. Ossai Ovie Success, dismissed claims that such a festival exists in the state, expressing shock and disappointment over the incident.

In a related development, the Delta State Police Command confirmed that it had commenced a full-scale investigation into the incident, describing the acts captured in the video as “criminal, inhumane, and a grave violation of fundamental human rights.”

According to a statement issued on Friday, March 20, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, ordered an immediate probe upon receiving the video evidence.
The police disclosed that the alleged chief organiser of the event, identified as Chief Omorede Sunday, alongside four other suspects, has been arrested. Authorities also confirmed the arrest of a community head linked to the incident.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, with tactical teams deployed to track down other suspects involved.
“The Command unequivocally condemns such acts in their entirety,” the statement read, adding that all individuals found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The police also called on victims and witnesses to come forward with relevant information, assuring that all disclosures would be treated with strict confidentiality.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and law-abiding as investigations continue, while authorities reiterated their commitment to safeguarding lives and upholding the rights and dignity of citizens.
