Russian Missile, Drone Strike on Kyiv Region Kills Four, Wounds 15

March 14, 2026

A combined missile and drone attack on the Kyiv region killed at least four people and wounded 15 others overnight, regional authorities said Saturday.

Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the Kyiv regional administration, said three of the injured were in critical condition, with two undergoing surgery.

The overnight assault struck four districts around the capital, damaging residential buildings, schools, businesses and critical infrastructure, he said in a statement on social media.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the main target of the strikes was energy infrastructure in the Kyiv region.

He said Russia launched about 430 drones of various types and 68 missiles during the attack.

Russia’s defence ministry said its forces targeted energy and industrial facilities supporting Ukraine’s armed forces as well as military airfields.

The strikes came days after the United States postponed planned peace talks between Russia and Ukraine scheduled for this week, citing the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Zelenskyy urged Western allies to increase the production of air defence missiles to help protect Ukrainian cities.

“Russia will try to exploit the war in the Middle East to cause even greater destruction here in Europe, in Ukraine,” he said in a social media post, calling for greater attention from Kyiv’s partners.

He also criticised a 30-day US waiver on sanctions affecting Russian oil exports, saying the measure could provide Moscow with billions of dollars to continue the war.

Meanwhile, Russian authorities reported Ukrainian drone strikes overnight in the southern Krasnodar region.

Local officials said three people were injured in a strike on Port Kavkaz, a port used to ship liquefied natural gas and grain. A service vessel and parts of the port infrastructure were damaged.

Authorities also said falling drone debris sparked a fire at the Afipsky Oil Refinery, although no injuries were reported.

Both Moscow and Kyiv have in recent days claimed gains along the front line as the war, now in its fifth year since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, shows little sign of easing.
