Champions League: Real Madrid Punished for Supporter’s Nazi Salute

March 6, 2026

UEFA fined Real Madrid 15,000 euros ($17,000) on Friday after a fan performed a Nazi salute before their Champions League match against Benfica last week.

The European football governing body also handed the Spanish club a partial stadium closure of 500 seats, suspended for a one-year probationary period.

UEFA said the sanctions were imposed “for the racist and/or discriminatory behaviour of its supporters” during the second leg of the play-off round on February 25. Real Madrid immediately ejected the fan caught on camera making the gesture.
