Ukraine Still Hopeful Of Joining NATO – President Zelenskyy

February 14, 2022

Ukraine’s President President Volodymyr Zelenskyy insists that the country still hopes to join NATO despite Russia’s stiff opposition and some Western countries’ scepticism over Kyiv’s bid to become a member of the transatlantic security alliance.

Speaking in Kyiv on Monday alongside new German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Zelenskyy said he believed his country should “move along the path we have chosen” in the face of spiralling tensions with Moscow, which has massed an estimated 100,000 soldiers and advanced weapons around Ukraine’s borders.

The Ukraine leader’s remarks came after Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov advised President Vladimir Putin to continue talks with the West on Moscow’s security demands.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom’s foreign minister has said Russia could invade Ukraine “at any moment”, citing the latest intelligence seen by London.

“Latest information suggests Russia could invade at any moment and we urge the Kremlin to deescalate,” Liz Truss tweeted following a meeting of the government’s crisis response committee (COBR).
