A social media feud between Nigerian music stars Wizkid and Seun Kuti has taken the internet by storm, igniting debates about Afrobeats, legacy, and fan loyalty.
The dispute, which escalated on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram from January 20-21, 2026, involves direct insults, fanbase clashes, and heated exchanges between the two artists.
Roots of the Feud
The tension began with Seun Kuti, the Afrobeat musician and son of legendary Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, criticising Wizkid’s fanbase, popularly known as Wizkid FC.

Speaking in livestreams and social media posts, he told fans to “keep Fela’s name out of their mouths,” calling them “ignorant” and “empty.” He added that Wizkid’s music “doesn’t fulfil their spirit” and suggested the singer’s Grammy nomination was more about a video than his artistry.
Seun positioned himself as a guardian of his father’s revolutionary impact. “No one can equate to Fela,” he insisted, underscoring the deep cultural weight behind his criticism.
Wizkid Hits Back
After days of silence, Wizkid responded on January 20 through Instagram Stories and X posts, taking aim at both Seun and his comments.
Declaring himself “bigger than your father”, Wizkid insulted Seun directly, calling him a “fool at 40,” “pu**y boy,” and “omo ale.”
He said:
“Fela fight for freedom, this fool dey fight FC!”
He also mocked Seun’s life, writing: “Your father succeeded, yet you’re this miserable? Is it only pant and weed you inherited from him?”
Wizkid did not shy away from crude humour, posting: “Everyday Wizkid! I fuck ur ugly wife? Wetin!” and sarcastically asking: “Ok, everybody big pass Wizkid. Can we all sleep now?”
The exchanges marked a shift from fanbase tension to a direct artist-versus-artist clash, drawing attention across social media.
Seun Kuti’s Response
Seun responded with measured sarcasm, posting a screenshot of Wizkid’s insults and captioning it: “Just be yourself short man. You are also great.”
He mocked Wizkid’s height and told him to stop overreaching, but did not escalate the feud further in immediate reports.
Fans and Public Weigh In
The online reaction has been divided.
Many Wizkid fans defended him, citing his respect for Fela through tattoos, performances at Felabration, and recognition from Femi Kuti. Some argue Seun’s attacks stem from jealousy over Wizkid’s global success.
Others criticised Wizkid for disrespecting Fela’s legacy and insulting Seun’s family, calling his comments “unnecessary ego.”
Celebrities also joined the conversation. Social media influencer Yhemolee questioned the feud, saying: “Fela died 29 years ago; people born then would be around 30 now — why fight teenagers who know nothing about him?”
Photographer and influencer Daniel Regha condemned Wizkid for disparaging Seun’s wife.
Meanwhile, many users are treating the feud as entertainment, dubbing it a “Naija beef” and circulating memes.
Legacy vs Stardom
At its core, the clash highlights a broader cultural debate: Wizkid’s global Afrobeats dominance versus Fela Kuti’s revolutionary status. While the two are rarely comparable, fans continue to pit them against each other online.
