Iran has strongly condemned the United States over its reported military strikes on Venezuela, describing the operation as a flagrant violation of international law and Venezuela’s national sovereignty, Prime Business Africa reports.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the U.S. military action constituted a “gross violation” of Venezuela’s territorial integrity and an explicit breach of the United Nations Charter, particularly Article 2(4), which prohibits the use of force against the sovereignty of another state.
The ministry described the reported U.S. attack as a “complete example of an act of aggression” and urged the United Nations and all governments committed to international peace and security to condemn it unequivocally. It warned that military action against an independent UN member state posed serious risks to regional and global stability and could further undermine the international system established under the UN Charter.

According to the statement, Iran said the consequences of such actions would extend beyond Venezuela, affecting the broader international order and eroding respect for international law.
Tehran also reaffirmed what it called Venezuela’s inherent right to self-defence, national sovereignty, territorial integrity and self-determination. It called on the UN Security Council and international organisations to take immediate steps to halt what it described as illegal U.S. aggression and to ensure accountability for those responsible for planning and executing the military operation.
The Iranian statement comes amid heightened international reactions following U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement that American forces carried out large-scale strikes on Venezuelan targets and captured President Nicolás Maduro.
The situation continues to draw global attention as governments and international bodies assess the legal, political and security implications of the reported U.S. action against Venezuela.
