Wike Denies Role in EFCC Case, Fires Back at Bala Mohammed Over Allegations

January 1, 2026

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed allegations by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, linking him to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) terrorism financing charge against the state’s Commissioner for Finance, Prime Business Africa reports.

Wike, reacting to the governor’s comments, described the accusation as baseless and an attempt to deflect attention from the legal troubles facing the Bauchi State official. He said Governor Mohammed was wrongly attributing his challenges to him, including the ongoing EFCC investigation.

The FCT minister said Mohammed had accused him of being behind his political and legal problems, citing an earlier warning Wike allegedly issued during a party dispute. Wike maintained that his remarks at the time were political cautions, not threats, and insisted that the Bauchi governor was now misrepresenting them.

He accused Mohammed of previously interfering in party affairs in Rivers State by attempting to impose leaders, a move he said led to internal crises. According to Wike, those actions contributed to the Bauchi governor’s current political difficulties, including challenges within his party over succession plans.

Wike questioned why the EFCC case was being personalised, insisting he had no role in the investigation. He said that if Bauchi State officials were confident of their innocence, they should cooperate with the anti-graft agency and clear their names.

The minister further criticised what he described as a growing tendency among politicians to blame him for political or legal setbacks across the country, dismissing such claims as excuses rather than accountability.

As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC had not commented on Wike’s response or the ongoing case involving the Bauchi State Commissioner for Finance.
