Obi Confirms 2027 Presidential Bid During X Space Session

December 29, 2025

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has confirmed that he will contest the 2027 presidential election, declaring that he will be on the ballot, Prime Business Africa reports.

Obi made the announcement on Sunday evening during a widely attended interactive session on X (formerly Twitter) hosted by @obidientupdate, where he addressed Nigeria’s economic challenges, insecurity and governance issues.

“Peter Obi will be on the ballot in 2027. I need your support. I need your prayers,” he told listeners, ending months of speculation over his political plans.

The former governor also dismissed suggestions that he could accept a vice-presidential slot, insisting that his preparations were aimed solely at leading the country. “I am not travelling round the world to learn governance to be Vice President,” Obi said.

On the economy, Obi criticised government policies that rely heavily on taxation without expanding productivity, warning that such an approach deepens hardship for ordinary citizens. “You cannot tax poverty,” he said, arguing that economic recovery must be driven by increased production, investment and job creation.

He further urged unity within the Obidient movement, particularly among young Nigerians, describing them as central to building a “just, productive and united” nation.

The session drew strong engagement from supporters, many of whom praised Obi’s detailed and policy-focused contributions, while some critics described his lengthy explanations as rambling.

The X Space attracted thousands of participants, underscoring Obi’s continued influence in Nigeria’s political landscape as early manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 general elections gathers momentum.
