U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to ISIS militants following coordinated airstrikes against their camps in Sokoto State, North West Nigeria, conducted on Christmas-Day, Prime Business Africa reports.
“I have previously warned these terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was,” Trump said. “The Department of War executed numerous perfect strikes, as only the United States is capable of doing. Under my leadership, our Country will not allow Radical Islamic Terrorism to prosper. May God Bless our Military, and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, including the dead Terrorists, of which there will be many more if their slaughter of Christians continues.”

The airstrikes were carried out by U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) in coordination with Nigerian authorities, targeting ISIS-affiliated groups, including Lakurawa, which have established a presence in Sokoto and neighbouring Kebbi State.
Nigerian officials confirmed that the operation formed part of structured counterterrorism cooperation, including intelligence sharing, strategic coordination, and precision targeting consistent with international law and respect for Nigerian sovereignty.
Security analysts note that the strikes come amid sustained U.S. pressure over extremist attacks in Nigeria, particularly those impacting Christian communities. The U.S. has recently imposed visa restrictions on Nigerians and their family members linked to attacks on Christians and designated Nigeria a “country of particular concern” under the International Religious Freedom Act.
Prime Business Africa reports that the Sokoto airstrikes are part of broader U.S.–Nigeria efforts to disrupt terrorist networks, prevent cross-border threats, and strengthen domestic security and intelligence capabilities. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also praised the operation, highlighting the readiness of U.S. forces and the cooperation of the Nigerian government in executing the strikes.
The operation marks a significant demonstration of U.S. military capability in West Africa and underscores the continued partnership between Washington and Abuja in countering extremist threats while seeking to protect civilian lives.
