Nigeria’s Inflation Moderates for Eighth Month, Hits 14.45% in November

December 15, 2025

Nigeria’s headline inflation rate eased further to 14.45 per cent in November 2025, marking the eighth consecutive month of moderation, according to the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Monday, Prime Business Africa reports.

The figure represents a 1.6 percentage-point decline from the 16.05 per cent recorded in October 2025, and the lowest inflation level in about five years, signalling continued relief from the cost-of-living pressures that peaked late last year.

On a year-on-year basis, the NBS said headline inflation in November 2025 was 20.15 percentage points lower than the 34.60 per cent recorded in November 2024, although the bureau noted that the comparison reflects a rebased CPI, with November 2009 now used as the base year.

Nigeria’s Headline Inflation Eases to 18.02% in September 2025 – NBS

“In November 2025, the headline inflation rate eased to 14.45 per cent relative to the October 2025 headline inflation rate of 16.05 per cent,” the NBS stated, adding that the decline reflects slower increases across major components of the consumer basket.

However, on a month-on-month basis, inflationary pressure intensified. The headline inflation rate rose to 1.22 per cent in November, compared with 0.93 per cent in October, indicating that average prices increased faster within the month despite the annual slowdown.

Food inflation also declined on a year-on-year basis, easing to 11.08 per cent in November 2025, down from 13.12 per cent in October. The NBS said this represents a sharp 28.85 percentage-point drop from the 39.93 per cent recorded in November 2024, largely due to the CPI rebasing exercise and changes in the weight of food items.

According to the bureau, food and non-alcoholic beverages remained the largest contributors to overall inflation, followed by transport, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels.

The easing inflation trend follows several years of rapid price increases that pushed inflation close to 35 per cent in December 2024, worsening living conditions across Africa’s most populous country. The slowdown gained momentum after the statistics office revised its CPI base year and updated consumption weights to reflect current household spending patterns.

According to Prime Business Africa, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had last month reiterated its desire for inflation to decline further, maintaining its benchmark interest rate unchanged as it monitors price developments.

While the sustained moderation offers cautious optimism, analysts say month-to-month price increases suggest inflationary risks remain, particularly from food supply constraints, energy costs and exchange-rate pressures.
