NAFDAC Destroys N20bn Worth of Counterfeit, Expired Products in South-West Clampdown

November 16, 2025

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed counterfeit, expired, banned, and substandard products valued at N20 billion in a major enforcement exercise across the South-West.

The destruction was carried out during the agency’s South-West Zonal Destruction Flag-off Ceremony held at the Moniya Dumpsite in Ibadan, Oyo State, marking one of NAFDAC’s largest disposal operations in recent years.

According to the agency, the products were seized during routine surveillance, enforcement raids, and regulatory activities targeting manufacturers, importers, and distributors dealing in unsafe or falsified goods.

The items included substandard and falsified medicines, unwholesome processed foods, counterfeit cosmetics, and other expired consumables identified as harmful to public health.

NAFDAC added that the exercise also covered expired and damaged products voluntarily handed over by compliant companies, non-governmental organisations, and trade associations supporting safe distribution practices.

Officials noted that the destruction underscores the agency’s commitment to protecting Nigerians from dangerous products that pose risks to health and safety. They emphasised that the crackdown will continue across the country as part of broader efforts to sanitise the supply chain and ensure only quality-assured products reach consumers.

NAFDAC urged the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious products, and purchase regulated items only from authorised outlets.
