The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday presented certificates of return to Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo and his deputy, Onyekachukwu Ibezim, formally confirming their re-election in the November 8 governorship poll.

The presentation ceremony was held at the INEC state headquarters in Awka and was conducted by the Supervising National Commissioner for the Anambra election, Kenneth Ukeagu.

Ukeagu said the event marked the conclusion of the electoral process and symbolised the trust and confidence the electorate had vested in the winners. He noted that the commission was acting in line with Section 72(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, which mandates INEC to issue certificates of return within 14 days to candidates duly returned by the commission.

“In compliance with this statutory provision, I have the honour and privilege to present the certificates of return to the Governor and Deputy Governor-elect, who emerged victorious in the just-concluded governorship election,” he stated.

Governor Soludo, who arrived at the venue with his wife, Nonye, and their children, commended INEC for what he described as a credible process. He also thanked residents of Anambra and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for their support, assuring that his administration would intensify efforts to accelerate development across all sectors of the state.

Soludo and Ibezim had been declared winners of the poll two days earlier by the commission, securing a renewed mandate to lead the state for another term.

The governor said the overwhelming support for his candidacy was a reminder of the responsibilities ahead, promising to continue pursuing policies aimed at strengthening institutions, improving infrastructure, and enhancing public welfare.

The ceremony was attended by party chieftains, elected officials, and supporters who witnessed the formal sealing of the governor’s second-term mandate.
