NGX Rebounds With N424.96bn Gain, FTN Cocoa, Beta Glass Lead Recovery

On Friday, August 22, the stock market gained N424.96 billion after the market capitalisation of the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) grew to N89.20 trillion, from the N88.78 trillion posted on Thursday, August 21.

This followed a 671.7 basis points gain recorded by the all-share index (ASI), which appreciated from 140,332.44 ASI to 141,004.14 ASI.

Additionally, the volume of shares traded improved to 1.30 billion, as equity investors sealed 25,916 deals, valued at N47.84 billion, compared to the 573.74 million shares traded in 25,881 deals, valued at N12.87 billion the day before.

Top five gainers

  • FTN Cocoa’s share price increased by N0.60 kobo, to rise from N6 to N6.60 kobo per share.
  • Beta Glass’ share value grew by N40.85 kobo, from N408.50 kobo to N449.35 kobo per share.
  • Veritas Kapital ended trading at N1.98 kobo per share, from N1.80 kobo per share – indicating an increase of N0.18 kobo.
  • UPDC gained N0.63 kobo to end trading at N6.93 kobo, having opened with N6.30 kobo.
  • Sovereign Insurance’s share value was up by N0.24 kobo, after closing at N2.65 kobo from N2.41 kobo per share.

Top five losers

  • Lotus Hal15’s share price depreciated by N11.80 kobo, dwindling from N118 to N106.20 kobo per share.
  • Thomas Wyatt recorded a N0.33 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N3 after opening with N3.33 kobo per share.
  • Geregu Power lost N114.10 kobo in its share price after trading hours, to sell at N1141.50 kobo from N1255.60 kobo per share.
  • McNichols reported a decline of N0.26 kobo from the previous day’s share price of N3.46 kobo to end trading at N3.20 kobo per share.
  • TIP recorded a N0.57 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N12.30 kobo after opening with N12.87 kobo per share.

Top five trading equities

  • Zenith Bank reported that 345.54 million shares valued at N21.23 billion were traded on its floor.
  • FCMB recorded 335.96 million shares valued at N3.53 billion.
  • AIICO saw investors trade 43.72 million of its shares valued at N181.82 million.
  • Nigerian Breweries recorded 43.25 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N3.02 billion.
  • Wapic reported that 33.32 million shares valued at N103.56 million were exchanged by investors.
