Stock Market Extends Decline With N357bn Loss

At the end of trading on Thursday, August 14, the stock market capitalisation declined by N357.34 billion to N91.92 trillion, from N92.28 trillion on Wednesday, August 13.

Also, the all-share index (ASI) decreased to 145,300.01 ASI from 145,864.8 ASI, indicating a drop of 564.79 basis points.

About 2.45 billion shares were exchanged in 43,515 deals, worth N22.21 billion, exceeding the preceding day’s 1.34 billion shares traded in 30,749 deals, valued at N20.21 billion.

Top five gainers

  • Juli’s share price increased by N0.90 kobo, to rise from N9 to N9.90 kobo per share.
  • Lotus Hal’s share value grew by N7.92 kobo, from N79.20 kobo to N87.12 kobo per share.
  • Austin Laz ended trading at N2.33 kobo per share, from N2.12 kobo per share – indicating an increase of N0.21 kobo.
  • NCR gained N0.75 kobo to end trading at N8.70 kobo, having opened with N7.95 kobo.
  • Thomas Wyatt’s share value was up by N0.28 kobo, after closing at N3.70 kobo from N3.42 kobo per share.

Top five losers

  • Lasaco share price depreciated by N0.50 kobo, dwindling from N5 to N4.50 kobo per share.
  • Sovereign Insurance recorded a N0.36 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N3.24 kobo after opening with N3.60 kobo per share.
  • UPDC lost N0.80 kobo in its share price after trading hours, to sell at N7.20 kobo from N8 per share.
  • C&I Leasing reported a decline of N0.80 kobo from the previous day’s share price of N8 to end trading at N7.20 kobo per share.
  • Wema Bank recorded a N2.30 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N20.70 kobo after opening with N23 per share.

  • Universal Insurance reported that 390.39 million shares valued at N577.43 million were traded on its floor.
  • AIICO recorded 236.57 million shares valued at N1.10 billion.
  • Linkage Assurance saw investors trade 214.26 million of its shares valued at N589.18 million.
  • Mutual Benefits recorded 157.53 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N638.65 million.
  • Regal Insurance reported that 109.85 million shares valued at N191.02 million were exchanged by investors.
