Stock Market Bullish Run Ends As Equity Cap Drops By N516bn

At the close of trading in the Nigerian stock market on Friday, August 8, the bourse’s valuation dropped to N92.21 trillion, from N92.73 trillion on Thursday, August 7, representing a decline of N516.14 billion.

The market capitalisation depreciated by 0.55 percent following an 815.8 basis points drop in the all-share index (ASI), which declined from 146,570.71 ASI to 145,754.91 ASI.

Investors were involved in 35,036 deals, after trading 2.21 billion shares, valued at N32.42 billion, compared to the 35,291 deals sealed the day before, after exchanging 1.98 billion shares, worth N27.26 billion.

Top five gainers

  • Union Dicon’s share price increased by N0.90 kobo, to rise from N9 to N9.90 kobo per share.
  • Champion Brew’s share value grew by N1.31 kobo, from N13.10 kobo to N14.41 kobo per share.
  • Universal Insurance ended trading at N1.10 kobo per share, from N1 per share – indicating an increase of N0.10 kobo.
  • Guinness gained N14.15 kobo to end trading at N155.75 kobo, having opened with N141.60 kobo.
  • Mansard’s share value was up by N1.33 kobo, after closing at N14.64 kobo from N13.31 per share.

Top five losers

  • FGSUK2031S4 share price depreciated by N10.99 kobo, dwindling from N95.99 kobo to N85 per share.
  • Abbey Mortgage Bank recorded a N0.69 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N6.30 kobo after opening with N6.99 kobo per share.
  • Custodian lost N3.75 kobo in its share price after trading hours, to sell at N40.45 kobo from N44.20 kobo per share.
  • Deap Capital reported a decline of N0.11 kobo from the previous day’s share price of N1.46 kobo to end trading at N1.35 kobo per share.
  • TIP recorded a N0.95 decline in its share price to end trading at N12 kobo after opening with N12.95 kobo per share.

  • Linkage Assurance reported that 585.56 billion shares valued at N1.17 billion were traded on its floor.
  • Universal Insurance recorded 213.19 million shares valued at N234.51 million.
  • AIICO saw investors trade 178.52 million of its shares valued at N618.06 million.
  • Mutual Benefits recorded 137.83 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N402.46 million.
  • Sterling Financial Holdings Company reported 115.27 million shares valued at N927.42 million were exchanged by investors.
