Prof. Okunna Appointed DVC Of Paul University, Awka

Renowned Mass Communication scholar, Professor Chinyere Stella Okunna has been appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of Paul University Awka, Anambra State.

The appointment was approved by the Senate of the University during its meeting which held on Thursday 27th January 2022.

Okunna who is the First Female Professor of Mass Communication in Sub-Saharan Africa, has by the appointment also become the First Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

Prior to the appointment, Okunna has been a senior lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, where she was part of the pioneer staff that started the department.

She had also worked at the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu where started her lecturing career.

A way from academics, Prof. Okunna has also been a Commissioner for Information and Culture, Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget as well as the Coordinating Commissioner for Development Partnership/Donor Agencies (2009–2014), all in Anambra State.

The institution also appointed Prof. Godwin Onu as DVC Administration in Adjunct capacity, Onu is a Professor of Political Science, an astute administrator and former Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko in Anambra State.

Paul University is a private university under the Anglican Communion East of the Niger, with Venerable Prof Obiora Nwosu as its current Vice-Chancellor.
