UAC Nigeria, Wema Bank Raise Stock Market Cap By N369.75bn

An increase in the shares of Wema Bank, UAC Nigeria, Guinness and others on the gainers list added N369.75 billion to the market capitalisation of the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) on Thursday, July 31.

The gain led to the capitalisation of the Nigerian stock market to rise from N88.05 trillion on Wednesday, July 30, to N88.42 trillion.

This was as a result of the all-share index (ASI) expanding from 139,278.67 ASI to 139,863.52 ASI, reflecting a gain of 584.85 basis points.

Over N33,64 billion was exchanged in 37,370 deals for 1,10 billion shares on Thursday, compared to the N35.39 billion traded for 922.03 million shares in 36,423 deals on Wednesday.

Top five gainers

  • Wema Bank’s share price increased by N2, to rise from N20 to N22 per share.
  • UAC Nigeria’s share value grew by N7.30 kobo, from N73 to N80.30 kobo per share.
  • Guinness ended trading at N117.05 kobo per share, from N106.45 kobo per share – indicating an increase of N10.60 kobo.
  • Sky Aviation gained N8.15 kobo to end trading at N90.05, having opened with N81.90 kobo.
  • Mecure’s share value was up by N1.40 kobo, after closing at N15.85 kobo from N14.45 kobo per share.

Top five losers

  • Learn Africa’s share price depreciated by N0.70 kobo, dwindling from N7 to N6.30 kobo per share.
  • FTN Cocoa recorded a N0.63 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N5.67 kobo after opening with N6.30 kobo per share.
  • Mansard lost N1.30 kobo in its share price after trading hours, to sell at N11.70 kobo from N13 per share.
  • TIP reported a decline of N1.50 kobo from the previous day’s share price of N15 to end trading at N13.50 kobo per share.
  • Ikeja Hotel recorded a N2.30 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N20.80 kobo after opening with N23.10 kobo per share.

  • FCMB reported that 121.53 million shares valued at N1.21 billion were traded on its floor.
  • Universal Insurance recorded 91.54 million shares valued at N71.69 million.
  • Fidelity Bank saw investors trade 81.12 million of its shares valued at N1.70 billion.
  • Regal Insurance recorded 64.52 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N51.93 million.
  • Royal Exchange reported 47.12 million shares valued at N79.54 million exchanged in investors’ hands.
